Animals Asia supports stray-cat population management in Beijing

In 2010 Animals Asia provided financial support to Lucky Cats in Beijing to help to promote responsible cat ownership fund ongoing trap, neuter, release (TNR) programmes in Beijing residential communities.

Lucky Cats are an established welfare organisation working with local communities to desex cats living in the community.

The funding helped to finance local communities that cannot afford to pay for the community cats to be desexed by themselves, and has been responsible for the desexing of 111 out of 156 cats identified in 7 residential communities of Beijing.

The desexed cats were also vaccinated and ear marked and community education initiatives have been carried out in conjunction with the TNR programme to generate support for the scheme among residents and to educate residents on the benefits of de-sexing the cats. Lucky Cats will continue to liaise with the community to monitor the effectiveness of this programme and to identify new cats arriving in the residential areas and trap and de-sex these individuals.

Animals Asia remains committed to helping to reduce the stray-cat population in China through humane methods.
